The Southern Cross Farm Team
Belinda (a Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Internal Controls Auditor and Board Certified Medical Technologist - RET) and Robert (an Internal Medicine physician) met in Tampa, FL while both worked at the VA and Tampa General Hospitals. At that time, Belinda was actively involved in her free time riding, caring for and showing her thoroughbred show horses. Since she was working full time, she was forced to board her animals.
Failing to find a boarding facility that lived up to her standards of care for her own horses, Belinda retired from the hospital and started her own business in 1981. In 1989, the farm was relocated to 40 acres in Ocala, FL. Southern Cross Farm has devoted over 20 years in the care and rehabilitation of thoroughbred horses.
Belinda is a hands-on horsewoman and personally oversees every detail of the farm. Her areas of expertise include breeding management, foaling, track lay-ups, medical rehabilitation, and sales prepping. The attention she pays to details allows each horse to reach their full potential and the owners' medical background enables the farm to provide care with that extra edge.
Alithos (picture to the bottom right) is the first horse bred by me and my husband in 1987. She also won her first start, MSW and was an allowance horse. Her winnings helped to build our farm in Ocala when we relocated in 1989. I raised her, broke her, raced her, bred her, foaled her foals and raced some of her offspring. Alithos is the third dam of Retsina that won by 12 3/4 lengths!
